Description

SOLE SOURCE BRAND NAME (STERIS) Project Purchase and installation of steam generator with de-installation and removal old unit. General Information 1.0 Scope of Work The Contractor shall disconnect the existing steam generator at 801 Summit Crossing Place, Suite B, Gastonia, NC 28054, and install a new steam generator. 2.0 Background The National Science Laboratories Gastonia use steam generators daily to create enough steam to run 4 autoclaves for the sterilization of media, reagents, and waste for the Microbiology section. The lab currently utilizes two steam generators for the steam needs. One unit is currently broken and this purchase would replace the unit as well as un-install and remove the old unit. The steam generator must work within the current system to fuel the autoclaves and provide high-quality steam. It must be an electric unit and run off 150kw with output of 476.3 lbs/hr. Contractor Requirements 3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks Disconnect existing steam generator Connect the new steam generator Test system 4.0 Government Furnished N/A The contractor shall disconnect the existing steam generator at 801 Summit Crossing Place, Suite B, Gastonia, NC 28054 in the warehouse area. A old unit is a Steris Power Pack Electric Steam Boiler Part # CH13-861-500, S/N 50087. The old unit shall be removed from the property and disposed of properly. The installation site shall be cleaned up to remove any trash or debris generated by the installation. The unit to be installed is a Steris Power Pack Electric Steam Generator, Part # CH13861. It shall be installed in the same location replacing the old unit and utilizing the same water, power, and discharge lines that are currently in place. The current system in the National Science Laboratories Gastonia includes 2 Steris steam generators (one not working) and 4 Steris autoclaves. The autoclaves and steam generators are designed to work together and the building has plumbed the steam discharge lines to work with the current configuration. Steris is the manufacturer, installer, and service provider for this equipment. This laboratory equipment is very sensitive and creates very high pressure and high temperature steam. When the system is not balanced with proper steam generation, it can create inferior working conditions and hazards. The system at the lab is designed to work together and thus, the lab is opting to simply swap out a non-functioning generator for a new replacement. Todd K.
